Ad, it seems like you don’t have the search enabled. Can you even get to the Search site using SharePoint Designer? http://yoursite/Search/ BTW cheers for the beer!

Aliya, it seems like the style for those two web parts are taken over by other styles in the style.css. Use Chrome’s “Inspect element” to see what styles are taking precedence.
